Director of Music Information Sheet

 

The congregation known as Trinity UCC was founded in 1890 and moved to our present location in 1929.

 

Job Parameters

Quarter time (about 10 hours per week, varies with holiday services)

Salary: $13,000 per year paid twice monthly

2 weeks of vacation annually (including 2 Sundays)

Start Date: September 1, 2021

 

Duties of the Director of Music

  • Collaborate with the Pastor to develop Worship Series, plan service music, choose special music/anthems, and select hymns for worship services
  • Rehearse and play music for weekly Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.
  • Rehearse, accompany and direct the Chancel Choir during the program year; schedule music for summer worship
  • Play for special services (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve) and have first right of refusal for weddings, funerals and other events
  • Approve outside musicians and guest musicians
  • Assist the Pastor to find coverage when you are away from the church
  • Maintain music library files
  • Schedule tuning and maintenance of church instruments

 

Instruments

  • 3 manual Berghaus Pipe Organ rebuilt in 1990 and regularly serviced (pipes in 2 locations)
  • Young-Chang baby grand piano in the Sanctuary
  • Yamaha upright piano in choir rehearsal space
  • 5 octave set of handbells, hand chimes

 

Adult Choir: Our choir is very small – more of an ensemble. Most members have many years of experience singing SATB and SAB arrangements

 

Hymnals: The Hymnal for Worship & Celebration (1986 Word Music) supplemented with The New Century Hymnal, the African American Heritage Hymnal and others

 

Choral Library contains more than 700 anthems as well as cantatas, choral response books, etc

 

Music Licenses: CCLI license + CCLI Podcasting, OneLicense.net

 

Budget

Funds to purchase music and pay for guest musicians come from the annual church budget (about $2,000), from Special Offering donations 2 months of the year, and from our Concert Fund.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • At least 2 years of experience as a church musician
  • Able to play some hymns and occasional service music on the pipe organ
  • Excellent piano skills; ability to sight read, underscore and improvise
  • Able both to accompany and direct a choral group at the same time
  • Willing to help recruit additional singers/musicians
